The windows NT released in mid-1994 made sure that there was a promising future ahead for all the operating systems that were going to be released by Microsoft. The windows NT also packed features that proved to be extremely helpful for office computation of large data and store it in a particular place. With Windows NT(nicknamed the Daytona) as the base, Microsoft developed the various other operating systems that made them the top of the software trade as well.

The resource kit of the windows NT 3.5/3.51 has been revamped with the first-ever inline Microsoft DNS, the domain name system of Microsoft. The domain name system was one of the much- anticipated updates from the viewers from Microsoft. They made sure that the domain name system was supported with all incoming updates in the future. But since the DNS system was the starting reveal of the resource kit, it had a lot of bugs that needed immediate attention and Microsoft friskily resolved it with their next update on the NT version.
Windows 3.51 (NT 3.51) released on May 30, 1995. It was released for business and networking. This version was based on Windows NT.Microsoft released service packs for Windows NT 3.51, which fixed bugs and introduced improvements.
Windows NT 3.5 was launched after the release of Windows NT 3.51 and is a part of the Windows NT series. It is a 32-bit operating system for workstations, while the GUI on this version is quite similar to that of Windows 95. It is mainly oriented towards catering to the needs of businessmen until the development of Windows 2000.
The Windows NT 3.5 can be downloaded from the ISO site and could be run in the framework you need to build up the server in. Presently, the general execution of the framework absolutely relies on the manners by which you configure the system administrator settings.
By default, the maximum cluster size for NTFS under Windows NT 4.0 and later versions of Windows is 4 kilobytes (KB). This is because NTFS file compression is not possible on drives that have a larger cluster size. The format command won't use clusters larger than 4 KB unless the user specifically overrides the default settings. You can do this by using the /A: switch together with the Format command or by specifying a larger cluster size in the Format dialog box in Windows Explorer. When you use the Convert.exe utility to convert a FAT partition to NTFS, Windows always uses the original FAT cluster size as the NTFS cluster size for cluster sizes up to 4 KB. If the FAT cluster size is greater than 4 KB, then the clusters are converted down to 4 KB in NTFS. This is because the FAT structures are aligned on cluster boundaries. Therefore, any larger cluster size would not allow for the conversion to function. Note also when formatting a partition under Windows NT 3.5, 3.51, and 4.0 Setup, the partition is first formatted to FAT and then converted to NTFS, so the cluster size will also always be as described earlier when a partition is formatted in Setup.
The good part was that I could successfully download a copy of Netscape Navigator (a popular web browser from the 1990s) off my own FTP server, and that I could connect to shares via File Manager on my Windows Server 2012 home server.
Windows NT 3.51 has installation and data corruption problems when installing it under Virtual PC 2007 with more than one processor core installed. This is a follow-up to a previous post that I made on April 20, 2014 and I have decided to post a good tutorial on how to install Windows NT 3.51 under Virtual PC 2007. This applies to users who are still using Virtual PC when using Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.x as host machines and for Virtual PC 2004 when running Windows 2000 and Windows XP as host machines.
2. Using Process Explorer, look for the process that says "VirtualPC.exe" (or equivalent) and set process affinity to use 0. Process Explorer can be downloaded here: -us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer
3. Create a Virtual Machine using the New Virtual Machine Wizard and with the recommended settings (a 2 GB VHD with 64 MB of RAM). Windows NT 3.51 does not support hard disks larger than 4 GB on install.
10. From the Tools menu, choose Drive Letter and in the Assign Drive Letter box, select a drive letter other than C, commit the changes and reboot. This is useful if you want to move the Windows NT 3.51 installation onto a logical drive.
11. If you have MS-DOS 5.0 or later installed, place the BOOT.INI file, NTBOOTDD.SYS and NTDETECT.COM on the primary partition of the C drive and leave NTLDR on the drive other than C where Windows NT 3.51 is installed. Please refer to Chapter 16: Disk Administrator starting on page 428 for more information on how to use this feature.
This is the third release of Microsoft in the Windows NT family. It was released on May 30. 1995 which is exactly nine months after the Windows NT Server 3.5. Windows NT Server 3.51 is nine months older than Windows NT 3.5 and only three months younger than Windows 95.
Windows NT is a family of operating systems developed by Microsoft. The Windows NT family is available in both the operating systems and servers. Most of the Windows NT operating systems are not supported any more while some are released in recent years. From old windows series like Windows 3.1 up to latest versions like Windows 10 is included in Windows NT family.
Steps to reproduce: Install a fresh copy of Windows NT 3.51. Login under the default admin account and load up Write from the "Main" program group. Then try typing something, the program crashes and Dr. Watson in Windows NT comes up reporting the error. See attached screen shot for details.
Steps to reproduce: First, update Windows NT 3.51 to SP5 although it isn't really needed to reproduce the bug. Then, download the IE5 setup and make an ISO that has the setup files on it and load up the program and try to install it. Either the wizard will crash at a random time which has a similar error message to the one above or it will show the exact same message once you see the progress bar part of it. The screen shot attached shows when the Wizard decided to crash.

The NT POSIX subsystem was included with the first versions of Windows NT because of 1980s US federal government requirements listed in Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 151-2.[1] Briefly, these documents required that certain types of government purchases be POSIX-compliant, so that if Windows NT had not included this subsystem, computing systems based on it would not have been eligible for some government contracts. Windows NT versions 3.5, 3.51 and 4.0 were certified as compliant with FIPS 151-2.
Windows NT 3.51 is very similar to 3.5, but no longer requires the CPUID overrides. NT 3.51 was released around the same time as the Pentium Pro and the CPU family checks were clearly no longer useful. Because NT 3.51 properly supports PCI, it can be also optionally installed on the emulated BusLogic SCSI adapter in VirtualBox.
While treating nt3.51 after installing 80GbI've met trouble with accessing partitions above 2Gb (fat32) under nt3.51.And I've got BSOD - INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE.The problem was found insidescsidisk.sys (it is called disk.sys under nt4). It doesn'tdetect ExtendedX, Fat32, Fat32x,Fat16x partitions.I've rebuilt scsidisk.sys. And now everything works fine.Along with this there are still some useful thing in my collection. They help running NT 3.51 on new hardware and with some new applications.
Use e1000 NIC. It's stable and performs well. BUT only with the latest drivers from Intel, download from intel.com! (If you use the integrated drivers, the device manager shows a working NIC, but it does not.)
Use virtio driver as these are kept updated by Fedora virtio NIC drivers need to be loaded post install & can be found here : -win/direct-downloads/latest-virtio/ Information on install can be found here : _Network_Drivers_for_Windows
